Summer is over, the weather is going haywire, and they’re already starting to put Christmas decorations in stores. Things are a bit hectic in the world right now, so take a step back and feast your eyes instead on some of the major updates we’ve recently released in Fieldwire! Everything else might be a little out of control, but with these new features, we’ll make sure your projects continue to run without a hitch.
Improved Markup Editing Across Platforms
We’ve revamped and added quite a few markup editing tools in recent days. First up, you can now edit the color and line width of your markups across our web and mobile apps. On web, right click on the markups and select the “Details” option; on mobile, simply press and hold until you see the edit options appear. Similarly, selecting the Move markup tool now grants you the ability to edit the length/size of your lines, measurements, and shapes. And if you hold down the Shift key on web when making new lines or measurements, they will snap into place at exact angles so you don’t have to worry about inaccuracies.
Undo Button for Markups
To go along with the new markup editing features, we've also added an Undo button for markups, tasks, and links on plans as well. Now, if you decide you don't like how the markups you just made turned out, press the Undo button and the most recent one will disappear with a single click so you can give it another try.
More Batch Editing Options
Since we know bulk task and plan management can be quite useful, we’ve included some additional batch editing tools for both! For tasks, you can now batch edit the plan associated with all selected tasks, as well as manage their hashtags all in one go. Just select each task on web by hovering your cursor over them and clicking the checkboxes, then click the red “Actions” button to see both batch editing options. For plans, you can now batch edit sheet names and descriptions for multiple plans at once by doing the same. You’ll see the names and descriptions appear in a table that makes editing a breeze.
Sometimes when you or your team are snapping photos out in the field in a hurry, the orientation can be a bit off when you see the captured photo in Fieldwire. Luckily, on web you can now correct these missteps by opening the photo and clicking the “Rotate” button in the top left corner of the image. You’ll be able to rotate the photo to the desired orientation in no time at all.
Individual Task PDFs
You’ve always been able to email out individual tasks to people from Fieldwire, but now on web you have a second option: sending individual tasks as PDFs. When you click the “Share” button at the bottom of each task and choose “Email,” you’ll now see the option of sending the task as either a regular HTML message or a PDF file. This makes the data appear a bit more presentable if you’re sharing it with someone outside of your Fieldwire project.
Mobile Task, Markup, and Link Duplication
On the iOS and Android apps, you can now duplicate your geo-tagged tasks by simply clicking and holding them with your finger. The same is true of your markups and hyperlinked files on drawings. One long press on the task, markup, or file, and the option to duplicate it will appear, making it just as easy to clone content in the field as it is on web.
Additional Android & iOS Updates
On the Android app, you can now write custom subject lines and descriptions for individual tasks that you email out. And on the Settings page of your projects, you can choose longer durations before your verified tasks get archived, ensuring that they stick around longer so your team can still see them while on-site. On both Android and iOS, you can also now create and delete task relations, as well as sort tasks alphabetically by title.
Task Location Field
Finally, we have an exciting and often-requested feature: the Location field within tasks! It’s currently only available on web, but it will soon appear on the Fieldwire mobile apps as well. You’ll be able to indicate the specific room, floor, building, or any other sort of location that the task resides in, which will help add more clarity to your team when identifying on-site issues.
Hopefully all of these great updates will help bring some relief to your workday! Many of these features were suggested by you, our user community, so thanks for your input. We want to make sure Fieldwire is as useful as it can be to you and your projects, so keep the ideas coming!
