It seems like only yesterday we were just announcing new Fieldwire features for you to explore. In truth, it was about 2 months ago, but give us a break, we’re perfectionists and these things take time. Hopefully you’ve been keeping busy during these beautiful summer months, because we certainly have been, and the time has come to release a new batch of exciting tools and features that improve how you use Fieldwire to manage your day-to-day on the job. Enough beating around the bush, let’s take a look at what’s new!
First up is a feature that many of you have been requesting for quite some time now, and we’re finally ready to put it in your hands and turn you loose - Measurement tools! That’s right, you’re now able to record your on-site measurements directly onto your drawings from both the web and mobile versions of Fieldwire. Scaling length and area on plans is understandably a big part of accurately completing work and taking field notes, and up until now, we haven’t been able to provide you with a solid solution for that. Those days are now over, and each day going forward you’ll be able to calibrate your sheets in either feet/inches or meters. Best of all, Fieldwire will automatically calibrate your text-based PDF sheets if they already have a scale printed on them. No one else has you covered that well, so make the most of these measurement tools whenever you need to record distance or area while on-site. We think that’s a pretty fair trade, and look forward to hearing about how these new markup tools make your time in the field easier.
Next, we’re rolling out plan tags on our mobile apps in order to make locating and grouping your plans together that much simpler. We already unveiled plan tags on the web version of Fieldwire in our previous release, and now you can take advantage of this incredibly useful tool on your tablets and phones while you’re in the field. Just open up a plan and click on the title to bring up the version control window, and under the “Tags” section you can select from existing tags or add new ones to group certain plans together. Then use the search field to filter which plans show up on the Plans page based on the tags that you create. Try it out for yourself!
Another great addition we’ve made is a watermark feature for old versions of your plans. From now on, whenever you view a previous version of your drawings (any besides the latest version to be uploaded), you will see a red watermark displayed directly on the drawing to visibly distinguish the fact that you are not viewing the most current version of that plan. This should help reduce confusion and ensure that you always know which version you’re referencing, particularly since the current versions of your plans will not feature any watermark at all.
There’s been a great update to the Files page in your projects as well. Specifically, you can now download multiple files at once on the web version of Fieldwire by selecting them and pressing the “Actions” button at the top of the page. You can still download files individually by clicking the download icon along the right side of the page, but if you need to bulk download files in one go, premium account holders can now export their files much faster.
Similarly, you can now bulk download your task and attachment photos from the main Photos page if you have a premium account. If not, you can still download them individually, and you can also add new photos and delete existing ones directly from the Photos section via the action buttons at the top of the page. This should help you manage your project photos more successfully than you were previously able to.
And finally, we’ve now made related tasks viewable on the Fieldwire mobile apps. While you cannot yet make new task relationships from mobile, you will be able to see and interact with all your related tasks that have been established from the web. This will greatly improve your team’s ability to recognize task dependencies while in the field and coordinate with each other in order to reduce rework and effectively complete complex jobs.
All of these new features are live and ready to take for a spin. Hopefully they keep you all busy and help you get things done throughout the day, and as always, keep the ideas coming! We base most of our product developments off of feedback from our community, so if you’ve ever sent in your input or have thought about doing so, we appreciate it and always have an ear to lend you!
