Summer used to be a time to relax and goof around, but the Fieldwire team has another notion about how to have fun during these sunny months: New features! Many new developments have taken place during April and May in order to provide you with an even better experience using Fieldwire. It’s a busy beehive around here…we can’t help ourselves. And there’s certainly no shortage of great new things to build and ideas to explore, thanks in large part to the notable feedback we receive from you, our users. Take a look at what we’ve got in store for you this time!

Let’s begin with a feature that everyone can take advantage of, which is the new shape markup tool. The cloud tool is handy for highlighting areas of importance on your sheets, but we didn’t want to limit you all to just one shape option. You can now add squares, circles, and triangles directly onto your drawings, or make a polygon of your own design if you like. This slick new tool can be found in the standard markup toolbar located on every plan you view in Fieldwire. Just click on the button with the shapes on it (between the cloud and text tools) and you’re ready to begin marking up your plan!

We’ve also removed the ability to press-and-hold directly on a plan to create a new task in the mobile apps. In order to improve performance and reduce accidental tasks being created, from now on you’ll only be able to create new tasks on plans by using the Task tool in the markup toolbar. This is a perfectly effective method to create tasks, which is why it’s always had its own designated tool button, and should make things more intuitive for all of our users.

Next up is the new Photos page in your projects. Attaching photos in your tasks and directly onto your plans is an essential function for conveying information and streamlining your work, and when some of your projects start housing hundreds or thousands of tasks and plans, it can get a little tricky finding those photos quickly. So we decided to create a project page that will collect all of your task photos and photo attachments from plans in one convenient album that you can browse. On the web, you can also add new photos directly to the Photos page (this will be possible on mobile soon as well).

Another newly-released web feature is plan hashtags, which, just like task hashtags, will allow you to group plans together for improved organization. To give a plan a tag, simply open up the plan while on the web and click on its title. You’ll see the “Tags” field at the bottom of the Plan Details window. Add your new tag there, and then once back on the main Plans page of the project, you can search for specific plan tags by clicking on the “Filter Plans” button in the top right corner of the screen. This should be another great way for you to organize plans and pull them up quickly!

The final set of feature updates is for our users with premium Fieldwire accounts. First off, something that all of you should find helpful is the new account dashboard! This redesigned page will allow you to view and manage every user associated with your account projects, so you always know how many projects they are a part of, what level of account access they have, and how to get in touch with them. You can edit Account Admin and Member access at will and keep track of everyone that affects your account billing. This new dashboard should make managing your premium account easier than ever before.

And rounding out our new batch of features are the new time filter options when generating reports. These rolling report dates make it possible to pinpoint the exact day, week, month, or date range you’d like to draw project content from when creating your reports, and grant you further ways of filtering tasks in order to deliver the data you care about in a tidy presentation. We want to make sure you have quality filters available when creating your report templates, and these time range options should make a big difference when choosing what content to share. You can locate the time filters in the bottom right corner of the report template.

There you have it! As always, we want to express our gratitude to all of you who continue to share your ideas and requests with us on a regular basis. Most of these new features are born from your direct feedback, since we want to make sure we’re providing you with the tools you need to successfully manage your projects with Fieldwire. So thanks! And keep that feedback coming, we always have an ear to lend when it comes to the things you want to see in our construction app.
